Shine Bright

This week, we’re sharing about Rachel Horan, an amazing mother, doula, chef, seamstress, and amazing friend.

We are also pleased to announce that Rachel is working with the Sunshine Baby Company as a labor doula!
Here’s what you need to know about this amazing woman and doula.
What is the name of your company? Orange Blossom Baby Company.
What’s your job title/position? Mama, Chef, Sewist, and Doula
Describe what you do in 10 words or less. I care for people
What do you find most enjoyable about your job? Making others happy through food, fashion, empowerment, and support
What brought you to your career?
I would say that my desire to make others happy has always been a driving force in my life, but as I’ve matured and realized that I want to make a lasting impact on women and girls, especially, I’ve moved into the doula field. I love empowering women and supporting them in reaching their goals. Whether it be birthing goals, personal goals, emotional goals, or anything in between, I’m here for that journey.
What’s one professional or personal development conference you would love to attend?
I would absolutely love to attend the Spirit Weavers Conference
How do you stay current in your field?
One thing that I love about Prodoula training is that it is always evolving and staying up to date. They, also, have a vibrant social network full of people who share and support and always bring the most diverse experiences to the table to truly expand my knowledge, which allows me to better serve my clients.
How do you hope to impact your industry?
I hope to truly provide non judgmental support to each of the families that I work with and with that empower them in their own goals and ambitions. I hope that my impact can be seen in my local community and in the families that I serve.
Tell us about your family!
I am happily married to my husband, Ryan, and we have two precious children, a daughter, Mickey (5)and a son Hudson (2). We also have 2 dogs, Nutmeg and Poppy seed, and a cat, Taco.
What charity/charities do you support?
I am an avid supporter of CURE SMA. They do amazing work for families coping with a Spinal Muscular Atrophy diagnosis. It’s the number 1 genetic killer of babies and most people have no idea what it is.
How do you celebrate your (or your family’s) birthdays?
My favorite birthday tradition is one that I started for my own kids. Each birthday, we have a special handmade crown made to match their birthday theme. Its hand felted and takes hours and hours of work and creativity. I love being able to look back at them and be brought back to those experiences with my family. Not to mention, they are absolutely stunning!
What surprises you the most about being a parent?
I had a very idealized version of motherhood prior to giving birth. I knew that being a mother was “it” for me…what I was meant to do. However, its waaay harder than I could have ever dreamed. I had severe post partum depression and anxiety and nothing came as naturally as I expected it to. I have been able to find peace over the last 2 years with help from my tribe and prescription medicine….and wine
What would you tell your 16 year old self?
Don’t take on so much student debt!
What’s your go-to accessory?
I have the most amazing necklace from Dapper and Darling that features engraved silhouettes of my children on mother of pearl. I wear it almost daily and it always makes me smile
What’s your favorite book–or what are you currently reading?
I am an avid reader and love most anything, but, in particular, I adore Outlander and I’m currently reading the Kingsbridge Trilogy by Ken Follett and it’s spectacular
Where do you go to recharge?
The Beach!
